As my thesis project for my double major of Dance and Communication Design I interviewed fellow dancers about the physical corrections they hear most in their classes. I took inspiration from cosmetic surgical lines (think Sex and the City) and used makeup to visually capture the words we use to manipulate and alter our bodies. Every dancer has corrections that ring in their ears, words they hear over and over again of things that are subjectively "wrong" with their anatomy. It was a moving experience to discuss, visualize and capture these words on the bodies of the dancers who would otherwise only present the perfect patina of the dance world. Embodiment is a fusion of mediums in a raw, physical demonstration, words twisting around beautifully imperfect bodies to bring to light the inner contortion we are trained to hide behind a smile.
